Self Harm

Self destructive behaviour.

Do you cut or severely scratch your skin? Do you hit or burn yourself, bang your head or stick objects into your skin? To you intentionally prevent wounds from healing? Do you ingest poisonous substances or inappropriate objects?

Sometimes you can experience emotions that you don‘t know how to deal with. These emotions may be particularly intense, negative and overwhelming, leaving you feeling numb and detached from the rest of the world.

You may feel that the only way to get relief from the internal distress you experience is to externalise your pain by means of harming your own body. You may even find putting yourself in danger, such as driving recklessly, binge drinking, taking too many drugs, and having unsafe sex helps to externalise your internal turmoil.

At Changemakers, we understand that this externalisation of pain by hurting yourself allows you to ‘feel alive’ in the face of intense numbness. We also know how to treat your condition and get you back on the road to recovery. So, if you are ready to stop self harming, come in and have a chat with us.
